About Anna

Anna Hamer is an Adlerian psychologist with 20 years of counselling experience. She is accredited by the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

Born in London and raised in Canada, Anna gained a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, USA, and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Toronto, Canada. In addition, she has various post-graduate qualifications, including EMDR, obesity management and Motivational Interviewing. Most recently, her area of study has been the realm of diet and its relationship with performance, mood and brain functioning.

Anna honed her counselling methodologies in North America, where she was a founding partner of the Coastal Counselling & Psychotherapy Practice in Vancouver, before moving to London in 2004. She is a specialist in using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to help clients of all ages and backgrounds overcome or resolve issues relating to: anxiety, depression, post-natal depression, self-esteem, OCD, self-harming, panic attacks, dysfunctional eating, weight loss, stress, parenting issues and career dilemmas. Her approach is bespoke to each individual. However, in each case Anna first establishes a warm and empathic relationship and then uses structured and goal-oriented frameworks applied in a non-judgemental fashion.

In addition to her private counselling work, Anna is a consultant to Shaftesbury Young People, one of England’s oldest children charities, where she co-chairs the Fostering Families Admission Panel. She also offers support and facilitates educational programmes to parents at the Mermaid Maternity Retreat, London.
